As a living arts center, the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center (LQTC) provides encouragement, networking, work space, and resources for regional textile groups and artists. Visitors are able to watch these artists create textiles as they tour the facility which is housed in the historican Maple Leaf School. Exhibits and interpretation presents textiles as cultural artifacts, an historical record of the life and time in which they were created. The extensive library preserves the written record of the techniques used to create the textile arts. Classes are scheduled to pass on these skills. For this reason, the Center is also involved with Arts-In-Education, taking the textile arts to children of Tillamook County or sharing the exhibits on site. The Center also hosts many cultural events that are related to textiles or that have a historical or anthropological interest. The Latimer Quilt and Textile Center functions as a museum by virtue of the Latimer Center Textile Collection. Textiles as well as the tools and techniques used to produce them are collected and maintained to increase the public's appreciation of the textile arts, as a primary source archive for reference, and for the purpose of research which will increase the body of knowledge regarding the textile arts.
The Latimer Quilt and Textile Center has a regional focus. The climate and light controlled Regional Repository is vital to the Center's mission. This 4,200 square foot building houses the Latimer Center's Textile Collection, the vast textile collection of the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, and provides space for storage of important historical pieces.
